Bernd Hanke, PhD, CFA

Dr. Hanke is a Managing Partner and Co-Chief Investment Officer of Global Systematic Investors LLP (GSI), a quantitative equity investment management firm. Prior to founding GSI, Dr. Hanke was a strategist and asset manager for GSA Capital in London focusing on quantitative equity research and portfolio management. Before that he was a Vice President in Quantitative Investment Strategies (QIS) at Goldman Sachs Asset Management in New York for almost 5 years where he focused on systematic equity return and risk modelling to manage long-only and hedge fund portfolios. At the time QIS was one of the thought leaders in the systematic investment management business with almost $200 billion of AUM.

Dr. Hanke has been involved in numerous ERISA cases in an expert witness capacity over the last few years. Most of these cases have been prominent lawsuits against the pension fiduciaries of some major corporations as well as some of the leading academic institutions running 401(k) and 403(b) funds respectively for violating their fiduciary duties.

Dr. Hanke holds a PhD in Finance from London Business School where his research focused on empirical asset pricing and the impact of liquidity on asset prices. He co-authored numerous papers on asset pricing and investments and has presented widely on systematic investment strategies. Dr. Hanke became a CFA charter holder in 2003. He also holds a B.S. in Quantitative Finance from James Madison University. He serves as a Curriculum Level Advisor for the CFA Institute. Dr. Hanke also holds the Cardiff University Bond Solon Expert Witness Certificate.

Brian Henderson, PhD, CFA

Dr. Henderson is a Finance Professor at George Washington University in Washington, DC where he teaches courses on investment analysis and portfolio management, performance evaluation, derivative securities, financial risk management, fixed income portfolio management, and corporate finance.  He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and has presented his research at many academic conferences, universities, and to market regulators. He also has significant consulting experience in the field of asset management. Those roles have included retirement plan design, investment performance evaluation, portfolio design, and quantitative investment research.

Dr. Henderson is an expert in portfolio management, investment performance measurement and evaluation, structured products, fixed income securities, and investment companies.  Recently he has been involved in numerous ERISA cases as well as investment arbitration hearings.  

Dr. Henderson has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and professional books, including the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Portfolio Management, Journal of Investment Management, and Journal of Fixed Income.
